Companies are vigilant,
but not invulnerable

While consumers and companies are benefiting from the added convenience that the digital transformation brings to our homes, work, and daily lives, the attack surfaces for cyber criminals are increasing at the same time. Although company owners are clearly aware of the threat, our annual survey reveals areas for improvement and uncertainties. Knowledge-sharing is essential, so I’m once again delighted that 193 decision-makers from Belgium and Luxembourg have shared their findings. Cybersecurity incidents

25% of respondents from Belgium and Luxembourg report having suffered a cybersecurity incident – down 5% from 2023 (30%). In large companies, the proportion is higher. What types of incidents do they face? And are they always intentional? The question has long since ceased to be whether you will be affected, but when and how.

The impact of the incidents

The impact should not be underestimated, and is greatest in the area of operational data – up from 19% in 2023 to 33% in 2024. From the boardroom to the battlefield: no sector was safe from cyber-attacks last year.

A quarter of affected companies incurred reputational damage. In addition, many companies experienced a drop in productivity that lasted several days. The ability to recover quickly in such situations is essential.

40% of respondents experienced disruption to their activities. In most cases, this lasted for less than a week.

Inadequate NIS2 compliance

Nearly 6 out of 10 SMEs do not know (43%) or are not sure (15%) whether their organization falls under the NIS2 directive. Achieving full compliance with the NIS2 regulations also proves to be a major challenge for many businesses: 15% claim to be fully compliant.
